My first school was M.D.H. Jayawardana Vidyalaya and I was selected to Thurstan College, Colombo-03 after getting 149 marks from 200 for my year 5 scholarship exam. I could obtain 5-Distinctions, 2-Credit passes & 1-Simple pass (Eastern music) in my G.C.E (Ordinary Level) examination. While waiting for G.C.E (Ordinary Level) results, I followed a certificate course in Electronic Engineering Technologies. Since I’m successfully completed that course they offered me a computer hardware course free of charge. These 2 courses boost my taste & knowledge in electronics.
I have passed my G.C.E (Advanced Level) examination by getting 1-A (Mathematics) & 2-Cs (Chemistry & Physics). Average was 64%. Since I was 5 marks behind from the Engineering cut off marks, I had to attend to the Faculty of Geomatics, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka. But nothing to worry, soon I realized there are plenty of interesting subject areas in the field of Geomatics. While I'm following my 4 years Surveying Sciences degree program in the University of Sabaragamuwa I have also followed a 3 years external degree program in Information Technology (BIT) from the University of Colombo sri lanka
I was able to successfully complete my Surveying Sciences degree with a 2nd class (upper division) & the 3 years studies in my IT degree, except the final year project. I have also completed an international online diploma in Fundamental Notions of Mathematics, Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden.
Currently I'm reading my Master in Geographical Information System at Lund University, Sweden. It's a 2 years distance learning course. I should travel to Sweden for the presentation and defend my final year research thesis. Lund University is the Sweden's largest university for teaching and research and I'm glad to be a part of it after a huge competition.
My next dream is to do my Ph.D. in a Swedish University. One day, somehow I will get a chance to do that and I’m really interested in web based GIS technologies. I’m also having a good potential towards web technologies such as ASP.net/C#, Silverlight, AJAX, javascript, ArcGIS Server and web mapserver.
